Black Spanish Mustang Mare

From the 1400's to the 1800's, Spanish Explorers and settlers traveled overseas to the Americas, bringing with them, their treasured spanish horses.  Over the years horses were released into the wild for various reasons: some escaped, or survived battles, others had to be left behind simply because their was not enough food for the return journey.  These horses formed bands that would become the wild American Mustang we know today.  Even now genetic testing is proving some heards to carry strong genetic correlations to the historical spanish horse.  Indeed there are some mustangs out there that look exactly like Andalusians.

With this knowledge of the history of our horses and how it is intertwined with the American mustang, we thought that this would be an exciting cross to the Andalusian, resulting in offspring that look remarkably like a purebred (and genetically may be).  We have spent several years searching for a mustang that exhibited strong spanish traits, to incorporate into our breeding program.
Finally,we found Lucy in beautiful black and we just could not pass her up.  Lucy comes from a heard that is known to have spanish influence.  With her round solid lines and beautiful arched neck, she looks like the mares from one of Spain's stud farms.  She has a beautiful head (very similar to our Andalusians) with big wide eyes.  She has nice size, and smooth reaching gaits,  as well as a sweet and laid back temperament.  We can't wait to see the offspring of one of America's living legends and the "Horse of Kings"!  If you are looking for a horse at the price of a half Andalusian, with the looks of a purebred, this just might be the cross for you.
